Zanta Cali Gon
1997 Sorrel - 15 hands
$500/LFG
"Arnie" Grandson of Zan Parr Bar
(click name for an extended pedigree)
Quotes from the book Matlock Rose, The Horseman
Zan Parr Bar had everything he looked for in a sire: balance and regal bearing;
straight legs, and dense bones; strong muscling; deep hip and heart girth; refined neck
and pretty head; long, deep shoulder and prominent withers; short cannons and low hocks;
and last but not least, intelligence and an easy-going disposition.
I think the only way you can improve the breed is to breed a horse with
conformation that can do something. Zan Parr Bar was the only halter horse I ever had that
I wanted to keep for breeding. Some horses can win at halter, but you never see their
colts performing. You see a lot of Zan Parr Bars colts, and his studs and mares are
producing, too. |

Jessie Trucha
1993 Buckskin - 15
hands
$500 LFG
"Jessie" Grandson of Jessie James
(click name for an extended pedigree)
Quotes From Legends, Volume II
Jessie James was purchased as a two year old by the Waggoner Ranch. Bob Burton, a
Waggoner ranch hand, was the first to ride Jessie James and his stablemate, Poco Bueno.
Bob Burton's comparison of the two horses "I don't think there was whole lot of
difference between the two horses. Jessie wasn't near as stout a horse as Poco Bueno; they
were just two different types of horses. I don't think there ever was a horse like Jessie
James."
According to Jim Reno, "Jessie James was a tremendous athlete who could run, stop
hard, and turn around quickly." "He was a master at using his head and neck to
control a calf. he worked with his ears back, and looked like a striking snake as he
reached for the calf. He kept his ears pinned flat to the back of his head all the time
that he was working a cow, almost like he didn't have any ears. He probably worked a cow
more with his head than any other horse I've ever seen."
Jessie James was considered by many of the cutting horse trainers in the 1950s and
1960s to be one of the greatest cutting horses to ever look through a bridle. He is
remembered as a great cutting horse personality, with a distrinctive style of working
that, once seen, was not easily forgotten. And, as one cutting horse trainer and exhibitor
of the period remarked, "He made the reputation of more good trainers than any other
horse." |
